I had NO idea what to shoot. But then as I was thinking about it more I started thinking about myself and how I deal with anger. I am not really a yelling mom, but I get upset. To me it’s almost that I get trapped in a bad mood and then struggle to get out of it. So I started thinking about how I get out of those feelings.

Baking something tasty always lifts my spirits. (and having fun photographing it!)

Taking my kids out to do something fun. Like Eli at the fire station.

This little boys smiles lift my heart.

Seeing my children interact lovingly.

A nice walk outside really makes me feel happy and alive and thankful.

I was asked to take a couple pictures of her for someone else. They were making a video of the women in their own congregation that goes along with this video by Hillary Weeks called Beautiful Heartbreak.

Go watch it and shed a few tears. It’s beautiful.

These are the still shots of my mom for their version of the video.

 

I am so grateful for my mom. She does not see how strong she is. Instead she sees herself as a weak person who was changed by my sisters death. But I don’t see her that way. I see her as strong and faithful and so humble and loving. It’s true she became a different person after Kelly died. She’s not the same mother I grew up with. She was a mother that was constantly accomplishing things. The woman knows how to do everything. I really mean it. But Kelly’s death changed her physically and emotionally. She lost her baby in a car accident when she was 17. How could that NOT change you?!

Still my mother is the same in so many ways too. She has always put others first in her life and is such an example of kindness. I often will call and ask her what the right thing to do is. She is a pillar of faith and love. So many things about her that I admire and love. And how grateful I am that she is in my life.

Some things that are weighing me down a bit. I am sure I am in a bit of a growth time. A time that is stretching and trying, but in the end will help me bloom into something more beautiful.

It’s taken me a long time to say that I am comfortable with who I am. I certainly didn’t feel that way as a child or teenager or even young adult.  But I think the combination of being married to a loving supportive husband and growing up I’m learning to be okay that this is me.

Still there are days when my heart is over come with discouragement or feelings of insignificance. I think that is normal. That we all have those days where we see more of what we are lacking than where we are wonderful.

My linked buddy Tracey wrote “ While there is a global sense of repetitiveness to your life, the fact is each day and moment is swept into shape to reflect the available light given to you. Isn’t that wonderful and reassuring?!

As I was out for a just a brief few moments to capture these trees, I was thinking about all of this. And how much we do matter. Even when we don’t feel like it. We always matter to our loving Heavenly Father. Every single moment of every day. And that should  give us root. Strong healthy roots that will hold us, ground us and give us strengthen to work through the moments and days when other feelings try and crowd in.

My friend Brooke links up articles that relate to photography each week and I really love it. I’ve thought about doing it for a while and well today I’m not just thinking about it, but doing it!

1. Love loved this lesson here about printing photos. SO true. In fact we got pictures taken when Eli was small and the DVD got lost and  then just recently found and guess what? It’s all scratched and it wouldn’t load in my computer. Totally makes me sad. I have some printed but I’d still love access to them!! Print your pictures!!’

2. Some great tips here about shooting selfies. Something totally scary and thrilling to me.

3.  Speaking of Brooke, she did a GREAT post about a topic I’ve thought a LOT about. I know I’ve taken some time off for my baby but I’ve thought about not shooting anything paid for a year. Taking a break from it all and just falling in love with photography. Saving the best for my family.
