Last May I participated in documenting my whole day with the Day in the Life project headed by the talented Ali Edwards and her Day in the life. Really it is similar to my 15 on the 15th that I do monthly but more pictures. Yesterday I documented our day. I took a whole lot of pictures. Here is the highlight reel 🙂 I put some of them on Instagram and I realized that I was way off on my guessing of times on Instagram. HA!
7:27am: Family scripture study at the table while eating breakfast. The kitchen is still a bit messy from yesterday.
7:48am: We have Eli pack his own lunch so that hopefully he’ll eat more of it. He takes the strangest things. Today it was a plain whole bagel, grapes, a bag of goldfish and two Easter candies.
8:10am: Two kids crying about screens. I have a love/hate relationship with screens. Mostly hate with kids and their want of screens.
8:51am: Dad leaves for work. I’d already had a head start on cleaning up the house so the furniture is piled together and the littles are watching the iPad so I can mop and sweep.
9:24am: Almost done sweeping so I can mop the whole upstairs. Kids almost done with the iPad.
10:04am: The bath together. There’s already been a couple bawling matches but then they fix it and are happy again.
10:27am: Getting out of the bath. Teeth brushing, hair fixing, lots of giggling and naked kids running away.
10:32am: This is an accurate picture of me trying to dress these two. They are wrestling on minute and dancing away from me the other.
11:04am: New chalkboard message for the week.
11:21am: I always try and sneak into the shower. I wait until they are busy with something but it’s like they have magical powers to hear when the shower comes on?! So I set up my tripod and camera and had my remote in the bathroom So I could capture what they do. Today they didn’t turn out the light (which is the usual) but they did bang a lot and turned the fan on and off and on and off. I got quite a few pictures of them out here and I love them all. 🙂
11:48am: “Mom, the cookie jar is empty, so we’d better make some cookies to fill it up. Don’t worry I’ll get down the cookie book and pick the kind!”
11:56am: “I wanna crack an egg mom” “Me too!”
12:24pm: They both got bored of cookie making and went jumping on the trampoline instead.
12:49pm: We’re trying to work on these two closing their eyes during prayer. Me setting the timer probably doesn’t help 🙂
12:56pm: Me and my list making. I feel like I can’t figure out my day without it.
1:03pm: O:” We’re going outside” Me: “Put on a coat and shoes.” N: “But it’s just so beautiful outside, so we don’t need them.”
1:06pm: Let’s wash those faces before you go outside.
1:11pm: Cleaning up some of the kitchen
1:16pm: “We’ll shut the door and press the ding-bell.” and Over and over.
2:41pm: “Mom take a picture of us just relaxing.”
2:43pm: Dance party in the living room.
3:42pm: First thing he does is always look for food when he gets home. He’s become a bit of a bottomless pit with food lately. It cracks me up. I remember my brothers eating like this!
4:42pm: Eli saw me pull up from checking the mail and my in between having to go pick up Lucy again. He decided he’d better ride along just to read the new lego magazine.
4:50pm: He always has to do some chore to earn screen time. And this is the chore he hates the most. But he easily makes the most laundry of ANY person in our family. So he always has some to put away. And it is painful EVERY SINGLE time.
5:19pm: For today’s screen time he picked playing lego games. I don’t let kids on the computer very often. Too many scary things out there in the internet land!
5:20pm: Risk is often played around here. I think the rules have been warped a bit but whatever. As long as they’re having fun.
5:39pm: Tramp basketball games are the other big thing around here lately. They were having a dunk competition with lots of laughing and wipe outs.
5:43pm: “Mommy, sit with me here, and I’ll zap you with my lasers.”
5:54pm: Oliver: ” I just want to do something with you…. like paint! Can we please paint?”
6:12pm: Left overs for supper. Dad on call plus a big family meal a couple days ago equals left overs for dinner.
6:19pm: Most days I don’t let books at the table at supper. Any other meal I don’t care but supper we talk. Today I let them read. Lucy got a book two minutes later.
7:04pm: Alden going to Young Mens. I am so very grateful for the good group of youth leaders we have in our ward right now. Alden loves going and those good men are having a great influence on his life. I am so so grateful.
7:58pm: Stories, songs and bed time prayers.
8:05pm: A little late to bed but not good bad. Lately Eli asks for a kiss attack pretty much every night. And he giggles the entire time. It’s really cute. Ollie sits on his bed waiting for his.
8:08pm: After weeks of late nights with the play, she was so excited to lay around on her bed and read and then go to bed at a good time.
That was our Tuesday. Totally typical of how much we saw dad when he’s on call (which is not at all until I drove him up food at 1045pm at night.)
