Double Chocolate Sourdough Whole Grain banana bread

Course Bread & Muffins


  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 4 eggs
  • 6-7 bananas
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cup whole grain flour
  • 1 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips


  • Preheat the oven to 325ºF convention or 350F for regular. Line three bread pans with parchment paper.
  • Cream butter, sugar and starter until smooth. Add eggs in one at a time and cream in. Add in bananas and use the mixer just until they are broken up.
  • Add in dry ingredients and fold together. Fold in chocolate. Divide batter among the three prepared pans. Bake for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
