I really like the idea of picking one word to try and guide my living for the new year. Last year I picked focus. This year I’ve been thinking about it again for the last few days and prayed about it and I’ve come up with: Choose.
Every day we are faced with decisions. Small ones and big ones. These seemingly daily decisions build together to determine our path in life. “Decisions determine destiny” as Thomas S. Monson said. Am I choosing the right things each day?
What am I choosing to focus on, to spend my time on, my money on, my emotional and mental time on? And am I choosing when things are hard and when things are easy for what I want in the future.
“Study the things you do in your discretionary time, that time you are free to control.Do you find that it is centered in those things that are of highest priority and of greatest importance? Or do you unconsciously, consistently fill it with trivia and activities that are not of enduring value nor help you accomplish the purpose for which you came to earth? Think of the long view of life, not just what’s going to happen today or tomorrow. Don’t give up what you most want in life for something you think you want now.” – Richard G Scott.
I think for me it also coming down to being specific in what I want for me and for my family and choosing those things through my daily choices. Being conscious and grabbing life by the horns instead of being carried wherever it takes me.
What about you? Do you choose a word for the year or do you do New Year’s resolutions? If you choose a word, what is it this year?
